We like our alcoholic drinks, we like our cocktails, we like to hangout with friends and have a drink or 2, but we want to lose or maintain our weight.

You eat healthy all week and skip desserts, then it’s Thursday and you’re ready to go out, but you don’t want to sabotage your figure! Make some minor changes and you can have it all!

Healthy Alcoholic Drink Options At Home

If you don’t want to give up your tasty drinks and are on a weight lose journey, get deliciously creative! Have you ever juiced and it tasted pretty good? Great!  Juice some fruits and vegetables, then add vodka!

The reality is, if you eat fast food, sweets, drink sodas and alcohol, it will not allow you to maintain or lose weight and the worse part is that your skin starts looking aged, so let’s add some healthy options.

Whether you only drink when the sun goes down or you’re a day drinker, there are many low-calorie alcoholic drink options. Knowing what to choose can be helpful if you’re trying to decrease the amount of calories that you’re consuming.

What is your favorite alcohol? Pair it with fruits and vegetables!

Start experimenting with fruits and vegetables to discover what tastes the best to you. Call your friends and have a party. Do you have a friend named Tammy or Becky? Call them up, Tammy is sweet, but she can be wild and always up for a good time. Becky is just nuts! Call them up to mix up some delicious concoctions.

I use the NutriBullet to liquify my fruits and vegetables. I like it because there’s little waste and easy to clean. Below is my fruits and vegetables grocery list. I don’t juice all of them at once. Mix 3 or 4 of them and do a different set the next day or for your next drink. It usually makes enough for 2-3 people, so you can share. Sharing is Caring.

  • Cucumbers
  • Tomatoes
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Apples
  • Oranges
  • Celery
  • Spinach
  • Beets
  • Carrots
  • Lemons

My go to is cucumber (good for the skin), strawberries, apples and blueberries with a big splash of Vodka. P.S. If you don’t like beets or Kale, don’t put them in your juice drink. I look forward to my drinks, not dread it. P.P.S. Please drink responsibly.

Are You Going Out For The Night?

If you’re going out and will be ordering from the bar, lighten up your order. Go equipped with a game plan. Order Low- Calorie alcohol drinks from the Bar.

All alcohol, whether it’s liquor, wine, or beer is heavy on calories even before you add any flavor and fancy mixers. The added mixers, syrups, and sodas is what adds more calories into your tasty drinks. Most drinks start with 1.5 ounces of distilled spirits that only have around 96 calories, but bartenders and their handy work can quickly turn that drink into liquid calories that will take you hours of exercise to burn off.

Have you heard of “wine waist”? Enzyme Aldh1a1 is responsible for converting alcohol to fat around our stomach area. The effects of this enzyme are suppressed by the female hormone oestrogen, says Dr Sarah Brewer, Medical Director of Healthspan. “The enzyme causes visceral fat to build up around your internal organs. After middle age, as the menopause approaches, oestrogen levels fall and so alcohol starts to pile on weight around the waist.” So, as a woman the alcohol starts to stick to our tummies more than before. Men naturally have lower levels of oestrogen, which is why they get beer bellies at any age.

So, let’s equip you with some knowledge so that you can make the best choices, before you start making bad decisions at the end of the night.

As an example, tonic water is not the same as soda water. A 12-ounce can of tonic water has about 124 calories and 32 grams of sugar. Even if you’re not drinking a full can, that’s still a lot of sugar and calories where soda water has none. So, choose soda water as a mixer.

Also keep in mind that the higher the alcohol content, the higher the calories.

  • 80-proof vodka (40% alcohol; the most common type) has 64 calories per 1oz
  • 86-proof vodka (43% alcohol) has 70 calories/1 oz
  • 90-proof vodka (45% alcohol) has 73 calories/1 oz
  • 100-proof vodka (50% alcohol) has 82 calories/1 oz

Here’s a list of mixers to add to your spirits that make them low calorie.

  • Diet soda or diet tonic: 0 calories
  • Orange juice (6 oz): 84 calories
  • Cranberry juice cocktail (8 oz): 136 calories
  • Light orange juice (8 oz): 50 calories
  • Light cranberry juice (8 oz): 40 calories
  • Light lemonade (8 oz): 5 calories
  • Coffee, tea: 0 calories
  • Sugar-free margarita or sweet ‘n’ sour mix: 0 calories
  • Lemon or lime juice (1/2 oz): 10 calories
  • Sugar-free syrups: 0

Sometimes you can skip the mixers completely. Try ordering your favorite spirit or one of the new flavored liquors on the rocks. The latest trend is Infused vodkas. They are not sweetened but infused with flavors, from jalapeno to peach, so they’re not added with any extra calories.
